On 4 February 2014, we had the honor of receiving the first lady of Japan, Mrs. Abe visiting our office; Center for International Youth Exchange to talk with Ms. Naoko Tanaka, Executive Director, Ms. Tomoko Okawara, Councilor (President of International Youth Exchange of Japan(IYEO)) and female staff representatives about “necessary approaches to nurture youth leader” and “a society in which women play an active role”.

All the staff members welcomed Mrs. Akie Abe, and had a chance to introduce themselves to her.

At the meeting, it was discussed that it is necessary for the youth to have a place where they could share their firsthand opinion based on their real experiences and a place where they could realize that they are expected as youth. It is international youth exchange programs that provide such opportunities for youth. Therefore, it is vital that the government takes strong initiatives in implementing the international youth exchange programs.

Mrs. Akie Abe commented that Japan should play a central part in peace-building with the power of youth, which is indispensable for . She concluded by saying that she expects youth organizations to actively promote such activities introduced today, which are based on the real experiences gained by participation of the international youth exchange programs. She immediately posted on her official facebook page her comments and photos of her visit to our office.
